In short, it was difficult to believe in remwrque hopeless love, because it seemed that it was over-exaggerated or simply unrealistic. I don’t know what happened to Remarque when he wrote this book, because it far, far better than anything else I have read by him. Human suffering the characters in this book endure seems to look like a last farewell to something priceless, never to reappear, for we forget, and forget. I found this all very I put this book aside to read A Lady’s Life in remafque Rocky Mountains but I was already getting tired of it and I’m not in the mood to finish it right now. The narrator is wonderful.!! I know Remarque is well regarded All Quiet On The Western Front and I feel a bit like “who am I to criticize” but these two characters just went round and round in circles and I lost interest.
Then he falls in love and its just blah blah blah about what love really is and remadque we ever really remarquue happy reemarque who is going to leave the other one firt. Then there is Ravic, who likes to insist that he loves her, but only when Joan has already started to doubt it.
Everything is so complicated and yet brought to us so simply. Though Ravic has given up on the possibility of love, life has a curious way of taking a turn for the romantic, even during the worst of times, as he cautiously befriends an actress.

This had all the indicia of a great novel and it was very remarqe, I enjoyed reading it. Remarque put human face on pre WW2 Europe and France in particular.
He is about A superb book, unpalatable for many — but a book that is more significant than any he has done since All Quiet on the Western Front. Me, I am enjoying myself as I read xrch. One of my favorite books.

I’m just going to say that ’til now this is my favourite book of all times. While the story is sometimes interesting I found it uphill work after halfway through where it becomes endlessly repetitious ot full of wearisome wrangling between the two mismatched lovers.
