Voted Best Answer Edit Answer for another 11 minutes. If you duplicate the layers to begin with you can simply delete the merged layer and go back to your original layers to make more changes. If I have layers on an image that are alreay flattened, is here a way to unflatten them so i can keep editing? If you saved the project and closed out of Photoshop there’s no way of unflattening the image.

You shouldn’t really import layered images into Aperture as a starting point. Is there any way to extract the layers out of the flattened file after it’s been saved?
