And the characters, there were so many of them that I thought I’d be unable to remember them all. He was immediately added to my favorite narrators list.
But, this is a gold standard book for fans of horror and more specifically, fans of vampire lit.
This is exactly what a vampire book should be They corner Oskar at night at the local swimming pool and attempt to drown him; however, Eli rescues Oskar and decapitates the two brothers, and together they flee the city with Eli’s money and possessions. View all 12 comments. Eli is the young girl who moves in next door. Did I mention this is a vampire novel? What can Sweden teach GB? The story is brutal and unsettling and, at times, eerie.
And that alone is my only criticism of this beautifully tragic book, although I would hardly describe wanting more as a criticism. Just too much for me and also why I docked it a star I loved how this book stands totally alone in some ways-for being a part of vampire lore, it borrowed from some typical vampire-ish legends but it also took the genre and flipped it on its head-there is tons of originality here.

The book is a tad schizophrenic. There are thousands of ratings and reviews on this book, plus there’s a movie, so what more can I contribute to this conversation? In an effort to scrub the memory oje the incident from my consciousness, I’ve been watching more television and have rediscovered Nigella Lawson. In the first situation you jump and holler. It seems ajvixe a huge fan Throughout the book their relationship gradually becomes closer, and they reveal more of themselves and in particular fragments of Eli’s human life.
Ann’s Warehouse in Eli lives next door to him. Actually, I would love to read a prequel novel on Eli’s life and death prior to our meeting her on the playground with Oskar.

Upon being hospitalized, Virginia realizes what she has turned into and kills herself in her bed by deliberately exposing herself to daylight. I finally got my revenge on Sweden. Anyway, altogether, a maxillo-facial gothtastic read – 3. Overall, I just found the “non central” aspects of the story a little too dull to teh my attention.

So I bought this with huge anticipation and BIG expectations since everyone I respect as a horror reader has rated it stars. While my school experience was nowhere near as hopeless, I related to Oskar’s plight much more than I wanted to. The action moves from one character to another very quickly. With all the horridness described in this book, it is strangely full of love and tenderness, understanding and forgiveness.
However, Eli dresses in female clothing and is perceived by outsiders as a young girl. Thank you, Kavita, for recommending your version of recommending anyway: Absent, drunk, sentimental and wholly useless, they leave boys to raise themselves, to construct chimerical identities out of drugs and violence against the ambient fatigue of the Cold War.
For some reason, I thought this was a YA tale. Even better, it captures the life and times of the children very well.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. Nothing else is important and you want to quietly capture the complete bliss you are experiencing and put it in a bottle somewhere. Not strange sounds and creaking doors creepy.
The Swedish one is great–on it’s own I would have loved it! This has always been a nation of builders. A paperback with the original title was later released to promote the film. Let Me In Author s: People who wonder what a baby made by Bram Stoker and William Golding would look like. Then he was a stand-up comedian for twelve years, before writing Let the Right One In.
This book is creepy and scary. John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel, a huge bestseller in his native Sweden, is a unique and brilliant fusion of social novel righf vampire legend; and a deeply moving fable about ome, friendship and loyalty. I thought the end was well done and kept pace with the level of realism that the author was going for with the story.
It just so happens that one of these outcasts is a gothy, child vampire of dubious age and sexuality who moves into this economically depressed neighborhood and befriends an adolescent boy named Oskar. So you can run and tell THAT.
